Abstract

Informatics and information technology networks constitute an important element for several policy areas of the European Communities. For more than a decade, the Commission of the European Communities has taken an active role in research and development of European networks, and has initiated a number of projects and programmes in this field, which is gaining an ever increasing importance. The present state of some of these projects is described hereafter with emphasis on their projection into the future years.
