Abstract
The application of tissue culture for the propagation and improvement of trees can be quite varied in both approach and technique. From previous reviews (Abbott 1977, 1978, Bonga 1977, 1980, Sommer and Brown 1979, Karnosky 1981), it is apparent that most of the work achieved up to now in this field has been devoted to the induction of organogenesis or somatic embryogenesis in cultures with the clonal multiplication of elite trees in view (see Chap. I, this Vol.)
