Thorakale Bandscheibenvorfälle

Zusammenfassung

Middleton und Teacher beschrieben 1911 als erste eine thorakale Bandscheibenruptur, die zur Querschnittlähmung und zum Tod des Patienten führte. Die wahrscheinlich erste Operation eines thorakalen Bandscheibenprolapses führte Adson 1922 in der Mayo-Klinik durch. Mixter und Barr, die 1934 in ihrer für die Bandscheibenoperationen grundlegenden Arbeit auch auf frühere Veröffentlichungen über „Chondrome“ (Eisberg 1928), Ekchondrome u. ä. hinweisen, berichten bereits über vier thorakale Bandscheibenprolapse neben vier zervikalen und elf lumbalen. Seitdem sind im Weltschrifttum nahezu 100 Publikationen meist weniger Fälle von thorakalen Bandscheibenprolapsen erschienen, worunter mehrere Arbeiten von Love und Mitarbeitern aus der Mayo-Klinik mit über 70 Fällen die insgesamt größte Statistik einer Einzelklinik darstellen.
