Zusammenfassung
Degenerative Erkrankungen des menschlichen Bindegewebe- und Skelettsystems gehören zu den häufigsten Ursachen für die Konsultation des Arztes. Die persönlichen Leiden der Patienten, aber auch die Kosten dieser Krankheiten für die Allgemeinheit sind beträchtlich. Es wäre daher besonders wünschenswert, die Pharmakotherapie dieser Erkrankungen zu verbessern; denn die Medikamente, die uns heute zur Verfügung stehen (s. Tabelle 1) heilen nicht, sondern führen bestenfalls zu einer Linderung der akuten Beschwerden (z. B. bei Ischialgien). Aber diese Wirkung wird häufig mit erheblichen Nebenwirkungen erkauft, und es ist daher die Aufgabe des Arztes, die Inzidenz und Intensität dieser Nebenwirkungen durch den sachkundigen Einsatz dieser Pharmaka möglichst gering zu halten.
