Zusammenfassung

Je intensiver in den letzten Jahren die psychischen Begleitprobleme chronischer körperlicher Erkrankungen einzelne Fragestellungen der Forschung beeinflußten, desto mehr vergrößerte sich die Notwendigkeit der Erarbeitung eines konzeptionellen Rahmens für die Fragen der Krankheitsverarbeitung. Nach fortschreitenden medizinischen Erfolgen wurde das Problem deutlich, daß interindividuelle Unterschiede in der Anpassung an die Krankheit nicht mehr mit Variablen des medizinischen Gesundheitszustands allein erklärt werden konnten. So entwickelte sich im letzten Jahrzehnt aus der Streßforschung —und teilweise parallel zu ihr — eine breite Copingforschung.
