Abstract

Diverticulosis is the most frequent colonic disease today in the Western industrial nations. The sigmoid colon is the segment most frequently affected. The radiologic image generally demonstrates two features: diverticular pouches and distortion of the colonic lumen. Discovery of diverticula confirm the diagnosis. Distortion of the sigmoid lumen, which frequently accompanies diverticular formation, was for a long time and is still sometimes misinterpreted as a sign of diverticulitis.
