Abstract
It is generally accepted that the stratum corneum acts as an effective barrier to the penetration of a wide variety of substances. When sufficient quantities of a toxic agent pass this barrier, epidermal or dermal damage may result or the agent may pass into the blood stream resulting in possible damage elsewhere in the body.
