Toe to Thumb Transfer

  • Chapter
Book cover Microvascular Reconstruction

Abstract

There are many techniques of thumb reconstruction. These include:

  1. 1.

    web space deepening

  2. 2.

Gilles bone graft and cocked hat flap

  3. 3.

    distraction lengthening of the metacarpal

  4. 4.

    osteoplastic reconstruction

  5. 5.

pollicization of a finger or portion of a finger

  6. 6.

toe transfer (first toe or second toe)

  7. 7.

    microvascular wrap around flap

A modest increase in functional length can be obtained reliably with a web space deepening, and is particularly useful for amputations through the thumb IP joint or distal portion of the proximal phalanx.
