Abstract

The origin of the name Red Sea always has been a reason for speculations. These go back to the very beginnings of scientific literature. Although the shores of the Red Sea have been always sparsely populated throughout human history, the Red Sea has played a significant role in it. Even the people living on the banks of the Euphrates, the Tigris, the Nile, and the Danube, and on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, have referred to the Red Sea in legendary and fabulous terms.
