The Adjustment of Geodetic Networks in the Three-Dimensional Ellipsoidal Model Space of Somigliana

Abstract

The ultimate aim in the computation of geodetic networks is the establishment of a one-to-one correspondence between points of the natural geodetic field and sets of coordinates associated with a metric tensor, enabling the recovery of metric relations between such points. The coordinates are furthermore required to be close to observable parameters in the natural geodetic field and the associated metric tensor to be of simple analytical structure. A scale factor may be assigned to account for possible strains induced by the procedure in the metric relations.
