Isosorbide-5-Mononitrate Increases Cyclic Guanosine Monophosphate Concentration in Rat Aorta in Vitro and in Vivo

Abstract

There is clear evidence that cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) is the mediator of the vascular smooth muscle relaxing action of organic nitrates. Several in vitro studies with glyceryl trinitrate (GTN) have shown a dose-dependent increase in cGMP concentrations in preparations from different vessels (e.g., [1–4]).
