Five Years’ Experience with CAPD/CCPD Catheters in Infants and Children

  • Chapter

Abstract

A reliable catheter is the cornerstone of successful chronic peritoneal dialysis. As continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD), and more recently, continuous cycler peritoneal dialysis (CCPD), have evolved as effective treatments for infants and children with irreversible renal failure, so have techniques for peritoneal catheter placement in these young patients. In this report, we review our experience with 50 consecutive peritoneal dialysis catheters placed in 27 pediatric CAPD/CCPD patients during the first 5 years of our program.
