Abstract

It is known that during elastic deformation of a solid the accumulated potential energy concentrates near the surfaces formed by a fracture of the solid [l]. This energy transformation is accompanied by considerable changes in the physical and chemical properties of a substance at the surface [2]. This facilitates chemical conversions in a solid at low temperatures when the molecular mobility is absent. These simple considerations were the starting point for the present investigation.
