Self-Organization Phenomena and Autowave Processes in Heterogeneous Chemical and Physical Systems

Abstract

The studies reviewed in this paper have been carried out at the Institute of Chemical Physics (Chernogolovka Branch) for the last decade. Various systems of essentially different physical nature were studied. These systems include heterogeneous catalytic reactions, boiling on solid heat-generating surfaces, heat transfer between electrically heated filaments and rarefied gas media, chemical solid-state conversions at low and superlow temperatures, and some examples of phase transitions. In spite of these systems being very different, the considered phenomena belong to the same phenomenological class, i.e. to the class of autowave self-organization processes. Another significant feature bringing them together is heterogeneity of processes and their localization on a solid surface.
