Abstract

In 1977, the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) again recommended a system of dose limitation for activities involving human exposure to ionizing radiation. The main recommendations for this system are that (a) no practice shall be adopted unless its introduction produces a positive net benefit; (b) all exposures shall be kept as low as reasonably achievable, economic and social factors being taken into account; and (c) the dose equivalents administered to individuals shall not exceed the limits recommended by the Commission.
