Abstract

Following the program outlined in the Introductory Lecture let us proceed to the main object of this course, viz. the operator S*∣K, where K is a subspace of H2-invariant for the operator S*. Such restrictions will be called parts of the original operator. Together with these it will also be convenient to consider the adjoint operators, the so-called compressions of the shift operator. (We will also refer to the operator S*∣K, as well as to its adjoint, as the “truncated shift”.)
