Zusammenfassung
Mit der konventionellen Tomographie lassen sich Körpersehichten bevorzugt darstellen, indem Röntgenstrahler und Bildträger gegenläufig um die betreffende Körperregion bewegt werden. Die im Summationsbild bereits enthaltene Information der gewählten Körperschicht tritt dadurch hervor, weil die vor und hinter der Schichtebene gelegenen Bildstrukturen verwischt werden. Üblicherweise wählt man paraxiale Schichtebenen. Konventionelle Transversalschichten haben sich in der Praxis nicht durchgesetzt, da Bildqualität und Anwendungsbreite nicht befriedigten. Die Computertomographie vermag dagegen kontrastreiche Querschnittsbilder vom Körperstamm zu erzeugen, indem die Strahlenschwächung senkrecht zur Körperachse aus verschiedenen Winkeln mit Detektoren gemessen wird. (Abb. 1) Die gemessenen Absorptionsprofile lassen über einen aufwendigen Rechenprozeß (Bildrekonstruktion) das Absorptions-verhalten einzelner Bildpunkte innerhalb der Transversalschicht zuordnen.
