Abstract
This first part of the book summarizes the state of knowledge in various fields of chemistry, meteorology, and instrumental analysis concerning formation, transport, and control of photooxidants. Special emphasis is given to the situation in the Federal Republic of Germany and Western Europe. The oxidant problem in the USA and Japan, which has been covered by several reviews, is only briefly highlighted
