Leaf Mitochondria (C3 + C4 + CAM)

Higher Plant Cell Respiration

Part of the book series: Encyclopedia of Plant Physiology ((PLANT,volume 18))

Abstract

The properties of isolated mitochondria from nongreen tissue have been studied for several years and have been the subject of a number of recent reviews (Palmer 1976, 1979, Hanson and Day 1980). Mitochondria from leaf tissue have been considerably less studied. The discovery of the photorespiratory glyco-late pathway, to which reactions in chloroplasts, peroxisomes, and mitochondria all contribute, have increased the interest in leaf mitochondria. Recent developments in preparation procedures have made more detailed studies on leaf mitochondria possible.
