Zusammenfassung
Die Hauptbestandteile der verholzten Zellwand sind Cellulose, Polyosen (= Hemicellulosen) und Lignin. Cellulose und Polyosen gehören zur Gruppe der Polysaccharide, während das Lignin ein Polymer aus aromatischen Bausteinen (p-Hydroxyzimtalkohol-Einheiten) ist (Fengel, Wegener 1984). Um zu verstehen, auf welche Weise diese unterschiedlichen Komponenten ein festgefügtes System bilden, aus dem Zellwände und das als Holz bezeichnete pflanzliche Gewebe bestehen, bedarf es einer weitergehenden Betrachtung als es dem molekularen Aufbau und den chemischen Eigenschaften dieser Verbindungen entspricht.
