Abstract

In-vitro cloning assays in semi-solid agar have been demonstrated to be very useful in the study of growth and differentiation of human normal and malignant hematopoietic cells (Metcalf 1977; Hamburger 1977). Several sophisticated preservation procedures of these cultures have been described in an attempt to simplify morphological and cytochemical characterisation of single cell clusters (Kubota et al. 1980; Konwalinka et al. 1980; Fauser and Messmer 1979; Salmon and Buick 1979; Jakobs et al. 1979). Until the present time none of the reported techniques has been satisfactory for the in-situ identification of the various proliferating cell types.
