Abstract
In contrast to the relatively primitive trial-and-error synthesis techniques described in the preceding chapter, a fully computer-oriented synthesis of the optimum planar circuit pattern is described now. A 3-dB hybrid circuit is again considered as an example, but the pattern is somewhat deformed from ladder-type to “ring-type” to facilitate mathematical expression of the circuit pattern. In the synthesis process, the contour-integral method and Powell’s method are used for the circuit analysis and the optimization, respectively. The synthesized optimum patterns are given in normalized curves and parameters which can be used directly in practical circuit design. The validity of the theory is confirmed by experiment.
