Zusammenfassung
Im letzten Kapitel haben wir im wesentlichen nur über Kontakte zwischen benachbarten Zellen gesprochen. In einem vielzelligen Organismus findet man jedoch eine Reihe von „Femverbindungen”. Einige, oft spezialisierte Zellen, produzieren und sezernieren Substanzen, die im tierischen Organismus z.B. mit dem Blutstrom transportiert werden und ihren Einfluß somit vom Produktionsort weit entfernt ausüben. Solche Moleküle nennt man ganz allgemein Hormone. Ihnen ist gemeinsam, daß es kleine, spezifische Moleküle sind; bei Tieren vorwiegend Polypeptide oder Steroidverbindungen, darüberhinaus einige relativ komplex gebaute Moleküle unterschiedlicher Stoffklassen.
