Measurement of Tissue PO2 on the Brain Surface: Clinical Application of the Polarographic Method

  • Chapter
Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism Measurement

Abstract

A multiwire surface electrode was used during neurosurgical operations for the measurement of local tissue PO2 in brain cortex and tumors. This clinical application of the polarographic method is still experimental, whereas in many animal experiments it has been used with good results (Leniger-Follert et al. 1975; Grote et al. 1980).
