Zusammenfassung
Retinoide sind die natürlichen und synthetischen Abkömmlinge von Vitamin A (Vitamin A-Alkohol = Retinol). Seit nahezu 60 Jahren ist bekannt, daß bei Mangel an Vitamin A neben den bekannten Sehstörungen auch Veränderungen der Haut auftreten im Sinne einer Störung der Verhornung mit Hyperkeratosen und schuppender Metaplasie an Haut und Schleimhäuten [1], Deshalb sind die Versuche, mit Vitamin A in der Behandlung von Verhornungsstörungen wie z.B. Ichthyosen, Pityriasis rubra pilaris, Morbus Darier einzusetzen, zahlreich [2]. Auch in der Behandlung der Psoriasis wurden mit Vitamin A gute Erfolge berichtet. Allerdings sind die hierzu notwendigen Dosen in einer Größenordnung von 200000–400000 Einheiten pro Tag so hoch, daß mit toxischen Erscheinungen im Sinne einer Hypervitaminosis A gerechnet werden muß (Gelenkschmerzen, Übelkeit, Erbrechen, Hyperostosen, Haarausfall, Trockenheit der Schleimhäute sowie Veränderungen der Leberenzyme und teratogene Wirkungen).
