Abstract

Recently several large works, mostly the collected reports from symposia, have been published on the subject of external skeletal fixation. The external fixator merits the particularly close attention of trauma surgeons. With its help, it appears possible to obtain better results in complex open fractures than have previously been achieved with Sarmiento’s functional bracing or with the classic nonoperative methods of BÖhler or Watson-Jones.
