Abstract

This overview is concerned with the epidemiology of motor neuron disease (MND) comprised of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), progressive muscular atrophy (PMA), and progressive bulbar palsy (PBP). The mortality and morbidity distribution are described with emphasis on the geographic foci of the Western Pacific. The etiologic hypotheses are reviewed.
