Abstract
Although the peripheral neuropathies (PN) occur world-wide, there are few community-based studies. For valid epidemiological studies, subjects must be representative of the community and the diagnosis must be accurate. Most studies of PN have been done in hospital populations and diagnostic criteria have varied among investigators, making comparison difficult.
