Abstract

In recent years the pace of bryological research has quickened and the dissemination of new findings has increased, creating a scientific climate comparable only to that at the beginning of this century. Fundamental and comprehensive publications dealing with almost all branches of bryology have revealed the wide scope of this subject and depicted the problems currently under investigation; ideas have been put forward and questions have been raised which illuminate future lines of inquiry in research.
