Part of the book series: Progress in Botany/Fortschritte der Botanik ((BOTANY,volume 46))

Abstract

Usually two facets of intracellular movement can be distinguished: Continuous movement of cytoplasm with or without chloroplasts, which does not change the overall pattern of organelle distribution, and redistribution of chloroplasts to patterns which are controlled by the light direction or, more generally, by patterns of intracellular light absorption. In both types of movement substantial progress has been made in elucidating the mechanism of movement as well as the regulatory processes.
