Abstract

Developers of health education programs must have an adequate understanding of the attitude-behaviour change process. To help program planners develop educational objectives, teaching strategies and evaluative criterion variables, a systems model of health behaviour change has been developed which integrates social, environmental, psychological, and physiological factors. The model is useful, first, in describing theoretical1y how behaviours are developed, changed and maintained, and secondly in describing and understanding specific health behaviours.
