Abstract
The rapid development of the Swedish health services was able to take place in a favourable economic climate for a long time. Even if the expansion rate has been higher than the development of the economy as a whole, the required resources have been available. However, the situation has changed during the past two years. The slow development of the economy has made it necessary to curb the expansion rate of the health sector and its future development will have to be adjusted to much more limited resources.
