Abstract
In 1971 preventive health examinations have been introduced for children between newborn age and the age of four in the Federal Republic of Germany. The aim is the early detection of diseases which are highly hazardous for the child’s physical and mental development. Six out of eight preventive health examinations are carried out during the first year of life, the seventh at the end of the second year, and the eighth at the end of the fourth year.
