Abstract
The main purpose of this twenty-fifth meeting of the European Society of Toxicology is, of course, to report new scientific findings and on that basis to look into the future for safer use of new as well as known drugs and other chemical products, with which man gets in contact. However, we should not forget that our current activities are built upon the knowledge of earlier findings, and that the scientific exchange we are going to have during the coming days in the beautiful city of Budapest is an event in a long chain of eventful meetings of this Society. So allow me to look a little back at the history of this still rather young Society.
