Zusammenfassung
Infektionen durch das Cytomegalievirus (CMV; Zytomegalie-Virus) sind weit verbreitet. Nahezu alle Disziplinen der Medizin sind betroffen. Kein zweites humanpathogenes Virus ist mit so vielfältigen, oft uncharakteristischen klinischen Erscheinungsformen assoziiert; häufig ist ohne moderne virologische Laborverfahren keine Diagnosestellung möglich. Die Infektion kann einerseits vollkommen symptomlos verlaufen, andererseits eine schwerwiegende Erkrankung hervorrufen; man kann lokalisierte, organbezogene Formen von generalisierten Manifestationen unterscheiden. Patienten mit malignen Erkrankungen und Immunsupprimierte stellen eine hohe Risikogruppe für CMV-Infektionen dar.
