Abstract

Angiographic techniques have contributed significantly to the evaluation and management of patients with gastrointestinal bleeding. Acute gastrointestinal hemorrhage unresponsive to medical management can often be controlled nonoperatively using the techniques of transcatheter vasopressin infusion or embolization. Definitive diagnosis of previously occult sources of hemorrhage, such as those associated with colonic angiodysplasias, can now be made. This report summarizes our experience at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in the angiographic evaluation and management of patients with gastrointestinal hemorrhage.
