Abstract
After a long period of exclusive reliance on hemodialysis (HD) or peritoneal dialysis, the therapeutic options for patients with advanced renal insufficiency have expanded substantially since the beginning of the last decade. After a spell of enthusiasm and a phase of serious reservations regarding the contamination of commercially produced substitution fluid [1], hemofiltration (HF) has found — at least in Europe and Japan — its place among other methods of blood purification.
