Zusammenfassung
Die Speiseröhre stellt im Grunde ein hohles, von Plattenepithel ausgekleidetes Verbindungsstück zwischen Hpyopharynx und Magen dar. Sie erstreckt sich von der Pars cricopharyngea des oberen Ösophagussphinkters in Höhe des 6. Halswirbels bis etwa 2 cm oberhalb des Zwerchfells, wo sie in den Magen einmündet. Im Bereich des Brustkorbs handelt es sich bei der Speiseröhre demnach um ein vertikales, röhrenförmiges, im hinteren Mediastinum gelegenes Organ, welches aus einer inneren zirkulären und einer äußeren longitudinalen Muskelschicht gebildet wird. Diese äußere Schicht verbindet sich mit dem lockeren, umgebenden Bindegewebe des Mediastinums. Ein viszeraler seröser Überzug fehlt vollständig, obwohl die Pleura mediastinalis nahezu in ganzer Länge die rechte Seitenwand der thorakalen Speiseröhre bedeckt.
