Abstract

Evaluation of patients’ health outcomes is extremely difficult for the following reasons: it does not reflect the value of negative computed tomographic (CT) findings ( — negative CT findings predominate); CT is only one factor influencing outcome — its influence in different diseases is not of equal importance; health outcome may not be altered because of the nature of the disease; definition of health outcome is relative — from individual to individual, from culture to culture, maybe even from health care system to health care system. This kind of evaluation (evaluation of health outcome) will take much too long to affect physicians in their choice of diagnostic and therapeutic measures.
