Zusammenfassung

Das „adult respiratory distress Syndrome“ — kurz ARDS genannt — nimmt eine Sonderstellung unter den ganz verschiedenen Krankheitsbildern ein, die klinisch mit den Symptomen einer akuten respiratorischen Insuffizienz einhergehen. Diese wird diagnostiziert aus den arteriellen Blutgaswerten, und zwar bei akutem Abfall des arteriellen Sauerstoffpartialdrucks unter altersentsprechende Norm werte und/oder bei akuter Erhöhung des Kohlensäurepartialdrucks auf über 50 mm Hg. Diese Symptome der akuten respiratorischen Insuffizienz sind unspezifisch.
