Abstract
General purpose operating systems have to be open with respect to evolution and varying configurations of software, hardware and data. Therefrom requirements arise for system structures which turn out to be not completely covered by the traditionally widely accepted concepts for system structuring e.g. as “Information Hiding” and “Uses Hierarchy”. Enhanced structuring concepts are discussed as well as the way of applying them to the operating system BS2000.
