Abstract

The term paraneoplastic syndrome (PNS) includes muscular, peripheral and central nervous disorders arising in relation to malignancies, but resulting neither from direct infiltration by malignancies nor establishment of metastases. On the contrary, they are regarded as indirect sequelae. It has not been clarified even today whether they are attributable to the action of special tumor toxins, to specific immune processes or simultaneous viral infection.
