Abstract
On March30, 1770, Empress Maria Thersea issued in the chancellery, Her Majesty’s Court, a Decree entitled “Concerning the introduction of a Coroner’s Inquest”. Thirty-four years later, again by decree of her Majesty’s Court, the Chair of Forensic Pathology and Medical Police was founded: this was the cradle for today’s Institute of Forensic Medicine.
