Zusammenfassung
Die Augenhöhle stellt grob vereinfacht eine Pyramide dar, deren Spitze nach hinten gerichtet ist. Die medialen Wände beider Orbitae liegen ungefähr parallel und sind durch das Cavum nasi und die Siebbeinzellen voneinander getrennt. Die mediale und laterale Orbitawand bilden einen Winkel von 45°, wodurch der Winkel zwischen den beiden lateralen Orbitawänden 90° beträgt. Die Orbita wird als birnenförmig beschrieben, wobei der Sehnerv dem Birnenstiel entspricht. Der äußere knöcherne Ring der Orbita hat einen etwas kleineren Durchmesser als die dahinter gelegene Augenhöhle, was seine Schutzfunktion unterstützt (Abb. 16.1).
