Abstract

Health services undoubtedly play a primary role in assisting the victims of a natural disaster. In a disaster situation their objectives are: (a) to provide casualty care at the disaster site and to organize admission of the victims to pre-established hospitals or mobile units; and (b) to ensure adequate facilities and housing at the disaster site corresponding to basic hygiene standards, until the situation is normalized.
