Mr. President of the congress Prof. Corrado Manni; Mr. President of the Club of Mainz for Emergency and Disaster Medicine Worldwide, Prof. Peter Safar; distinguished representatives of governmental, intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations dealing with emergency and disaster medicine; distinguished participants of the congress; ladies and gentlemen: It gives me pleasure on behalf of the Secretary General of the League of Red Cross Societies, Mr. Hans Hoegh, to greet you all and to express my satisfaction at being able to attend this congress.
