Abstract
On Thursday the 18th of January 1979 at 10:40 in the morning an explosion charge placed by Arab terrorists went off in a narrow path of the central market in Jerusalem. The market was crowded at that time with housewives buying provisions for the weekend. The makeshift bomb, with an explosive charge of several hundred grams, was encased in a steel pipe and placed under one of the vendors’ tables. When it went off, it showered the surrounding area with metallic fragments. Immediate confusion ensued, some people running away from the site of the explosion and others running toward it out of sheer curiosity or with the intension of rescuing the screaming victims who were lying on the ground.
