Abstract

For relief and rescue missions which have to be executed speedily, over considerable distances, or in trackless or impassable areas, aircraft are the most suitable means of transport. For catastrophes the most appropriate types are either the fixed-wing aircraft, covering considerable distances, up to the edge of the disaster area, or the rescue helicopter, which can cover from the edge into the interior of the disaster area (Fig. 1).
