Neotectonic Movements at the Southern and Western Boundary of the Hunsrück Mountains (Southwestern Part of the Rhenish Massif)

Plateau Uplift

Abstract

Since the Oligocene, the Hunsriick was uplifted about 200–250 m, in relation to the Rheinhessen Plateau (Mayence Basin), and tilted southwards with amounts of up to 50 m. The plateau uplift includes parts of the Saar-Nahe Basin. The quaternary partial uplift does not exceed 40–50 m.
