Abstract

The paper deals with a system specification language, SSL, which is formally based on VDM and thus constructed on a solid semantic (and syntactic) ground. The main aspects of systems modelling covered by SSL are the representation of structural properties by means of a strongly hierarchical decomposition and of dynamic properties via rules of behaviour. The basic idea behind the whole approach is to provide a formal framework for independent definitions of the functional aspects of the individual parts of the system by strictly separating these from the specification of the behaviour of the entire system.
